POKER BASICS · LESSON 5 OF 6

Check, call, fold, bet and raise

Updated · Free Poker USA

Check, call, fold, bet, raise and all-in.

About 3 minutes · One knowledge check

Check means stay in for free.

You can check when you owe no chips to match the current bet. Checking passes the turn without leaving the hand. If you owe chips, checking is not available.

Call means match. Fold means stop.

If you owe 20 chips, calling adds those 20 chips so you can stay in. Folding gives up this hand. Chips you already put in stay in the pot, but folding does not cost an extra payment.

Bet or raise means put in more.

A bet is the first wager in a betting round. A raise increases an existing bet.

In this app, “Raise to 60” means 60 chips in total for this round. If you already put in 20, you add 40 more.

Choosing an amount does not place it; pressing the raise button does.

All-in uses your remaining stack.

All-in means committing all your remaining chips. You stay eligible for the pot you helped build, even if others can bet more into a separate side pot.

The app handles that calculation. You never have to use all-in to finish a lesson.
